This week saw us drive 2.5 hours north of Perth to the small coastal town of Cervantes for a few days away. The area has beautiful scenery, activities and other little towns close by to visit. We decided to stay at the Cervantes Caravan Park rather than camp off grid for a change. Being a hot few days, the pool was appreciated. A snake also thought the pool area was a great spot to hide. A local snake catcher tried to find him, but he seemed to have disappeared somewhere (only slightly concerning).
We took a trip up to Jurien Bay to visit Kiera of Sea Spray Art. This local artist is certainly making a name for herself with her unique style of glow in the dark paintings and clothing. She works with fluorescent paints to create bespoke pieces focusing on sea life . We were lucky enough to find Kiera late last year and decided we just had to have more of her works! Now with a total of 6 pieces, we are hooked. I would highly recommend a visit to Kiera’s glow in the dark gallery on any visit to the area. Check out her work at www.seasprayart.com.au.
While in Jurien, we decided to have some fun and swim with the sea lions. A trip with the crew of Jurien Bay Oceanic Experience took about 45 minutes to get to the local sea lion population. These super cute, inquisitive creatures can’t help but swim and jump around you as you snorkel in the crystal clear, shallow waters. I must say it certainly was an incredible experience and well worth the early morning. The crew were amazing, providing all gear including wet suits and took photos and video footage to share with everyone on board. The hot shower and snacks after were very welcome.
Pete thought he’d do his 3rd skydive, this time with Jurien Bay Skydive. The views of the turquoise coast and contrasting brown farm land made for an amazing plane trip. He landed safely on the soft white sands of the beach and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
No trip to Cervantes is complete without a trip to the pub and being mid-week, chase the ace was on yet again. Seeing as the jackpot is up to almost $12,000, how could we not go! Despite our best efforts to get as many tickets as possible, it wasn’t our night or anyone else’s actually. I’m sure we will be back to try again another time.
